This project was inspired to focus solely on the welfare of immigrants in detention/custody. The violations of basic human rights, the inability to access accurate information/available resources to defend oneself prevents our immigration population from receiving a fair hearing or make sound decisions for themselves or the family unit while in custody.
As former immigrant detainee, Melissa Rodrick, after her detention period was inspired to return to school and with a B.C.S. and paralegal certificate find community partners and volunteer attorneys to work together to create a solution on the ground level for immigrants in custody.
To empower and educate immigrants in detention/custody to be able to advocate for themselves in instances where they have no representation. treated with dignity, respect and afforded the ability to defend themselves throughout the removal proceedings, with access to information and resources within the community.
Your contribution will enable us to print and distribute the Maine Immigration Resource Guide to the facilities in the state of Maine. Help us get this into the hands of those that that need it the most!
